The engine ranks what applies and shows only the top of the list. Anything destructive previews first — a rename shows you the new name before the file changes.

A token pasted into a website is a token you have given away. DropBench decodes it locally, formats JSON, generates a Codable model, converts timestamps, and strips the system frames out of a stack trace.

A screenshot of an error carries the surrounding code, the file name and the line the caret is on — everything the OCR’d text loses. DropBench opens Claude or ChatGPT with the image already in the composer.
DropBench sends nothingIt is a file hand-off. The image waits in the other app’s composer until you press Send — that press is the first time anything leaves your Mac.

Nothing is collected, because there is nowhere to collect it.
The clipboard is read only when you ask
There is no polling timer anywhere in the app. The absence of that code is the guarantee.

Only actions marked ↗ contact a provider, only if you configured one, and only after asking.
The privacy statement says exactly what does and does not leave your Mac, in enough detail to check against the app’s behaviour.

The download is not locked and there is no licence key. The app has no way to check, and adding one would mean putting a phone-home in software whose whole claim is that it doesn’t have one.

Where does my data go?
Nowhere. Recognition, text extraction and OCR all happen on your Mac. There is no account, no telemetry and no server. The one exception is an AI action marked ↗, which contacts the provider you configured, after asking.
How do I open it?
Unzip it and drag DropBench to your Applications folder. It lives in the menu bar — there is no Dock icon, because it is summoned rather than opened. Press ⌥Space.
Do I need a licence key?
No. There isn’t one. The download is not locked, and the app has no way to check whether you paid.
Will macOS warn me about it?
No. It is signed with a Developer ID and notarised by Apple, so Gatekeeper opens it without a warning.
What permissions does it ask for?
Only at the moment an action needs one: Reminders, Calendar, or a folder you pick. The first rename in a folder asks for that folder once; later ones don’t.
Does it work without an AI provider?
Yes. Most of it is local rules — recognition, renaming, JSON, tokens, timestamps, stack traces. AI actions are the ones marked ↗ and are optional.
Can I get a refund?
No. The download is not locked and there is no licence key, so you can use DropBench for as long as you like before deciding to pay rather than after. Payment is voluntary, and it is not refunded.
